#1. Seat belt extenders

You can now buy your own seal belt extenders from various sources online. Just be sure not to book a seat in the emergency rows--you can't use seat belt extenders there.

#2. Second seat

Some airlines offer refunds for second seats as accommodation when purchased ahead of time. Sometimes you can request a second seat free-of-charge when checking in or at the departure gate.

#3. Affordable upgrade

When checking in the day of your flight, sometimes first class upgrades are $20-$30. Fat Fridays friends report that American and Delta have been really good about this.

#4. Research policies

#5. Research accessibility
