How I Do a Year Ahead Tarot Reading

Future Telling vs. Areas of Focus

I am not a psychic and I don’t view tarot as a future-telling device. My understanding is that there are too many variables (including free will) that could impact any definitive details about our future. The way I view a Year Ahead reading is that it’s a gentle suggestion of where our focus may lie at different times, based on our current circumstance.

How I Do a Year Ahead Reading

It’s pretty simple, actually. I basically do one card for each season. But, since winter is split between the beginning of the year and the end of the year, I do one card for the beginning of the year and one card for the end of the year. So, five cards total.

The spread looks like this:

Card 1: Beginning of the year

Card 2: Spring

Card 3: Summer

Card 4: Fall

Card 5: End of the year

SAMPLE READING

I’ll share brief details about the Year Ahead reading I did for myself, just to give yous a little taste. There was plenty more to pull from this reading, but between the teeny tiny time restraints of Instagram and Tik Tok, as well as my own boundaries, I’ma keep those details to myself.

PS: If you don’t already know, I use UNO cards to read tarot. (Yes, really!) If you want to know more about how UNO tarot works, you can check out this blog post or this video.

Card 1: Beginning of the year

For the beginning of the year, I’ve got the Yellow 9, which is the 9 of Swords. This means that I’m tying up loose ends at the end of a cycle in the realms of thinking and communication.

Card 2: Spring

For the spring, I’ve got the Green Reverse. It means going back to something or reevaluating something. And the Green is the Pentacles, so that’s gonna be in the realm of all that physically sustains me.

Card 3: Summer

So, for the summer, I have the Yellow 4, the 4 of Swords, reversed. I’m back into the realm of thinking and communication, but the number 4 represents a time of some deep analysis and planning. So, it’s a preparation stage for what comes next, which is the 5.

Card 4: Fall

For the fall, I’ve got the reversed Red 5, which is the 5 of Wands. That’s kind of funny, I just mentioned the 5! So, the 5 is going to be a time of immense movement. The Red, the Wands, is the realm of passion, or what I like to call, “everything that we give a fuck about.”

Card 5: End of the year

Whoa! More yellow! I’m gonna be living in the realm of thinking and communication for a lot of the year. The 3 is a really optimistic number. And, between the summer and the end of the year, I’m gonna actually go through an entire cycle.
