Numerology & Affirmations for Fat Liberation Month

It’s become tradition that I kick off NAAFA’s Fat Liberation Month with a magical gathering of fierce fat folx. This year, in celebration of the 3rd Fat Liberation Month, I created a workshop about utilizing the symbolism and energy of the number 3 to honor where the movement currently is and to facilitate our future progress. Along with the numerology of the 3, we collaborated on intentions and affirmations for ourselves and our community.

Here’s all the info from the workshop. Later, I’ll be adding the intentions and affirmations that the group created for use by anyone striving for fat liberation.

Intentions & Affirmations: WTF’s the DIff?

Intentions

Meanings we assign to words or actions. Intentions can be engaged in endless ways.

  • Examples:

    • Set intentions for ingredients while cooking

    • Set intention while stirring coffee, tea, soup, etc.

Affirmations

One way to engage intentions through use of words (written, spoken, thought).

We’ll explore examples below!

Meanings of 3

Chronological narrative

  • The point at which we start to see the bigger picture

  • Our seed/vision/goal begins to take form

Symbolic meaning

  • Warns us not to “run before we can walk” or scatter our energies

  • Reflects a need to continue to gather information so our picture can grow as wide as possible

  • When navigating this time thoughtfully, the outcome is more likely beneficial

  • Suggests the use of self-expression and communication

  • Energy is open, optimistic, cheerful, pleasant

Tips for Creating Intentions & Affirmations

NOTE: These are just my preferences. If something else feels better to you, do it!

  • State intentions in the present tense to demand the intention now.

  • Keep it to one concise sentence. If there are multiple intentions in one statement, separate them into two different intentions.

  • Trust your intuition. Go with what comes to mind first. You can always adjust later.

Self or Community?

Fat liberation is personal and political. There’s no value judgement about the choice to create a personal intention or one with community in mind.

  • Examples:

    • I choose to respect/love/care for my body as it is today.

    • All fat folx will receive dignity and care today.

“Negative” versus “Positive”

Be mindful of the intention behind our language. Sometimes banishing is necessary. Sometimes manifestation is necessary.

  • Examples:

    • Our activism will eliminate fat oppression.

    • Our activism will facilitate fat liberation.

Harnessing the Intention of 3

Here are some examples of how to write affirmations that connect directly to the meanings of the 3.

  • Seeing the bigger picture

    • The fat liberation movement has grown and will continue to grow.

  • Small steps (not getting ahead of ourselves)

    • I contribute to fat liberation in small ways each day.

  • Self-expression

    • Fat folx are loveable, talented, and beautiful human beings!

  • Optimism

    • I believe in fat liberation, therefore fat liberation will be achieved.

Way to Engage 3 with Affirmations

  • Write them down 3 times each

  • Repeat aloud or internally 3

  • Display them where you’ll frequently see them (mirror, fridge, phone, altar)

  • Share them with 3 friends

  • Light 3 candles while engaging them

  • Repeat while stirring coffee/tea/soup/etc.

    • Clockwise = manifestation

    • Counterclockwise = banishing

Putting 3 Into Regular Practice

These are ways to engage the intention of the 3 in everyday life, with or without the use of affirmations.

Self-care strategies

  • Practice patience or slow down (not running before walking)

  • Practice mindfulness or being present (not scattering energy)

  • Listen to uplifting music (cheerful)

  • Intentional aesthetic (self expression, cheerful)

Spiritual practice

  • Number magick with 3

    • Write/repeat affirmations/intentions 3 times

    • Light 3 candles

  • Meditate with others or spirit team (communication, gather more info)

  • Tarot/divination (communication, gathering more info)

  • Magick art (self expression)
