Fat Animal Facts, Part 2
Each Fat Fridays Virtual Social Club (presented by NAAFA and hosted by me!) involves a themed discussion and game. The following information came from our January 2024 gathering with the theme of fat animals. What you’ll find in this list is a collaborative effort from our group discussions.

FAT ANIMAL FACTS
To me, fat animals represent size diversity. Biodiversity is imperative to ecosystems and body diversity is natural. So, here we celebrate some of our champions of fat visibility in nature!
The blue whale is the largest animal known, period. Larger than dinosaurs!
Elephant seals can dive over 5,000 feet deep—further than any other seal.
Gray whales have their babies in the lagoons in Baja, Mexico, which are a sanctuary for the whales. After being hunted for many years, it was finally banned. Now, they’ve returned to the lagoon and even like humans—so much so that they will present their babies to people on boats.
Sue the T-Rex is the largest full (fat!) dinosaur skeleton in the world. You can visit them at the Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois. (Btw, Sue is a non-binary icon, too!)
Good news! The first successful in vitro fertilization of a rhino has happened! This is very good news for saving the species.
